In Fall 2022, five colleagues at the University of Victoria (UVic) (two tenured and one tenure-track faculty, one graduate and one undergraduate student), who did not know each other, agreed to explore what Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) meant to them and their experiences at UVic. Their diverse perspectives – from undergraduate to full professor, from cishet to queer/non-binary, from white and black to bi-racial, and from young to old(er) has become known as the Strangers by Design initiative. This site is their attempt to share their experiences so that others might learn how to celebrate and embrace the beauty of diversity as they have.
